The Jack Reacher-series by Lee Child has become a global phenomenon throughout the years. There are at the moment 18 books and a few shortstories chronicling Reachers adventures stacking up an enormous body count with each installment the size of the Giza Pyramids by now. Reacher is a force of nature as an ex-military cop of gigantic muscular proportions.
In the first adventure Reacher ends up in a corrupt southern town wrongfully accused of murder. I shall not spoil more than that, because how the plot unfolds is a big part of the enjoyment of reading a Reacher-novel. It may not be as ingeniously crafted as some of the later ones (like Gone Tomorrow) but it makes up for it with plenty of remarkably gruesome shit and a plottwist which makes this one feel a bit more personal. And you definitely are rooting for Reacher, something that can be hard to achieve especially when you you deal with the archetype of a mythic loner,the one-man army coming into town dispensing justice rather than a ordinary human being.
Killing Floor is a gloriously vicious and violent piece of work. Which is in my book (so to speak) a huge plus. What Child does with his writing in all of his books is something primal and mythic. They are about righting wrongs. He is very good at crafting evil sonsofbitches that are so morally corrupt you can sense the termites crawling out of the leftovers of the moral fibres and that these assholes really need to die,which makes the climax satisfying in ways most actionmovies fail at.
There are plenty of fightscenes and shootouts throughout this blood-drenched piece of bad ass literature and it has become a personal favourite of mine among the Reacher-adventures. Which says a lot. I love them all. It certainly is a good a place as any to start if you have yet to read a Jack Reacher.If you love action-movies but can´t watch any because of power failures, use Killing Floor as a backup plan. In fact purchase every single one of them and store them in your underground survival bunker,next to the M-16 assault rifles,so you will have something awesome to read when the shit finally hits the fan.
